How Weighted Grades Work
Most courses use a weighted grading system where different assignments count for different percentages of your final grade. For example, homework might be 20%, midterms 30%, and the final exam 50%.
Standard Letter Grade Scale
| Letter | Percentage | GPA (4.0 Scale) |
|---|---|---|
| A | 90-100% | 4.0 |
| B | 80-89% | 3.0 |
| C | 70-79% | 2.0 |
| D | 60-69% | 1.0 |
| F | Below 60% | 0.0 |
Tips for Improving Your Grade
- Attend every class: Participation often counts, and you'll miss crucial info.
- Turn in all homework: Even partial credit adds up significantly.
- Form study groups: Teaching others is the best way to learn.
- Go to office hours: Professors appreciate effort and may offer extra help.
- Review past exams: Professors often reuse question formats.
⚠️ Reality Check: If the calculator says you need 110% on the final, it's mathematically impossible to reach your target grade. Focus on maximizing your score instead!
